Written by: William Day

TL;DR / Executive Summary

  • D-Orbit raised $53M in Series D funding led by Azimut Group
  • Additional $75M earmarked to buy out existing investor shares
  • Funds will support acquisitions and production scale-up
  • Focus on in-space computing, ISAM services, and facility expansion

Our portfolio company D-Orbit, the second largest holding in SSIT, has closed a $53 million investment round led by Azimut Group, marking the first tranche of its Series D. A further $75 million has also been allocated for secondary share purchases. The fresh capital will fund strategic acquisitions and expand D-Orbit’s satellite production to meet accelerating demand across government, defence, and commercial markets.

The company is prioritising growth in two areas: in-space computing and ISAM (in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing). D-Orbit’s ION satellites already serve as nodes in a space-based data network. Future acquisitions will aim to expand these capabilities, supporting services such as debris removal, in-space recycling, and spacecraft transport beyond Earth orbit.

To scale operations, D-Orbit plans to open a larger, more automated facility near its Lake Como HQ and hire across engineering, AI, and advanced manufacturing roles. These investments are designed to strengthen its bid for institutional contracts and cement its position in the evolving space infrastructure sector.
